Privacy Policy

Not That ("the App") is operated by Niche Applications LLC ("we", "us", "our"). This privacy policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices.

Information We Collect

Location data. When you grant permission, the App accesses your device's location to find restaurants near you. Your coordinates are sent to our server to query the Google Places API. If you manually enter a location instead, that text is sent to our server to convert to coordinates — the same data practices apply. We do not store your precise location on our servers — it is used only to fulfill the restaurant search and is discarded after the response is returned.

Account information. If you sign in with Google (or Apple, when available), we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from the sign-in provider. This information is stored in Firebase Authentication and is used to identify your account for data sync.

User preferences. Your favorites, blocked restaurants, winner history, and saved filter presets are stored locally on your device and, if you are signed in, synced to Google Cloud Firestore so they are available across your devices. This data is associated with your account and is not shared with other users.

Usage data. The App logs anonymous session data locally on your device (number of rounds, filters used, completion rate). This data is not sent to our servers unless you are signed in, in which case aggregated preference data may be synced to improve your experience.

How We Use Your Information

• To find restaurants near your location
• To save and sync your preferences across devices
• To personalize the "App Decides" feature based on your past choices
• To improve the App's functionality and user experience
• To generate aggregated, anonymized insights for restaurant partners
• To display relevant promoted content within the App

Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party services:

• Google Places API — to search for and display restaurant information, photos, and reviews. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
• Firebase (Google Cloud) — for user authentication, data storage, real-time multiplayer sync, and server-side caching. Subject to Firebase's Privacy Policy.
• Affiliate partners — When you tap a link to order from or reserve at a restaurant (e.g., DoorDash, OpenTable), our affiliate network partner (Impact.com) may use cookies or tracking identifiers to attribute the referral. This is limited to the link you tapped and does not grant these partners access to your App data. Subject to their respective privacy policies.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use advertising networks or third-party analytics services.

Data Sharing

We do not share your personal information with third parties, except:

• With Google, as described above, to provide core App functionality
• If required by law or to protect our legal rights

Aggregated Data & Analytics

We may share aggregated, anonymized usage data with restaurant partners. This may include trends such as restaurant popularity, win rates, elimination frequency, and cuisine preferences in a given area.

This data is never individually identifiable — it cannot be traced back to a specific user. We do not share your personal information, account details, or individual choices with restaurant partners.

Promoted Content

Some restaurants within the App may be promoted by restaurant partners. Promoted restaurants may appear more frequently in the initial pool of options but are subject to the same user-driven elimination process as any other restaurant. The elimination algorithm treats promoted and non-promoted restaurants equally once they are in the pool.

Promotional partnerships do not involve sharing your personal data with the promoted restaurant.

Multiplayer Sessions

When you use the "Decide Together" multiplayer feature, your chosen display name and elimination choices are shared with other participants in that session via Firebase Realtime Database. Session data is ephemeral and is not permanently stored.

Data Retention

• Account data: Retained as long as your account exists. You can delete your account directly in the App (Settings > Delete my account) or by contacting us.
• Synced preferences: Retained as long as your account exists. Signing out does not delete your cloud data.
• Server cache: Restaurant search results are cached on our servers for up to 24 hours to reduce API costs. Cache entries are automatically deleted via Firestore TTL policies.
• Local data: Stored on your device until you clear the App's data or uninstall it.

Your Choices

• Location: You can deny location permission and manually enter your location instead.
• Sign-in: You can use the App without signing in. Sign-in is only needed for cross-device sync.
• Account deletion: You can delete your account and all associated cloud data directly in the App via Settings > Delete my account. This permanently removes your Firestore data, Firebase account, and clears local data. You can also request deletion by contacting us at hello@nicheapps.co.

Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
